Mini Gastric Bypass

Obesity can lead to serious health issues, such as high cholesterol and heart disease, affecting your overall health and quality of life.

A mini gastric bypass is a restrictive and malabsorptive procedure that changes how much you can eat and how you absorb calories.

So why is a mini bypass such a great option?

Improve Your Quality of Life with a Shorter, Less Invasive Procedure

Long-Lasting Weight Loss

Surgery reduces the size of your stomach by approximately 90 percent and the length of your intestines by up to seven feet. This dramatically limits how much you can eat and allows you to absorb fewer calories.

Eliminate Health Issues

The procedure can lower your insulin dependency and reverse type two diabetes for some patients. Additionally, it can improve obesity-related diseases, such as high cholesterol, hypertension, and other metabolic issues.

Shorter and Safer

While a traditional gastric bypass takes about four hours, a mini gastric bypass can be completed in about one hour. It also has a lower risk of complication at 2.9 percent compared to 7 percent for traditional bypasses

Improved Quality of Life

Obesity can make you feel self-conscious and prevent you from participating in an active lifestyle. Surgery can improve your vitality and boost overall self-confidence.

Do I qualify for a mini gastric bypass?

Recommendations for Patients Considering a Mini Gastric Bypass

Our team will perform various medical history evaluations to determine whether you are a good candidate for a mini gastric bypass. Some of the most important conditions we check for include:

Body Mass Index

In order to qualify for a mini gastric bypass, you should have a body mass index (BMI) over 40 without comorbidities and over 35 with comorbidities.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Patients with a gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, may not be good candidates for this surgery because it increases your risk of bile reflux. If you suffer from a GERD, you may be a better candidate for a traditional bypass

Healthy Lifestyle

Because smoking and heavy alcohol use can increase your risk of complications and heart disease, you should be committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle prior to surgery and throughout your recovery

What is my BMI?

BMI: 25.0—29.9

Weight Status: Overweight

What can you expect on the day of surgery?

A mini gastric bypass shrinks your stomach and bypasses a portion of your intestines to reduce the amount of calories you can consume.

Surgery Can Be Completed In Under One Hour

The day before your procedure, you will check-in at our hospital. Your family can stay at our on-site hotel

On the day of your procedure, you will be placed under anesthesia by our board-certified anesthesiologist.

Our board-certified bariatric surgeon, Dr. Francisco Gonzalez, will create up to 5 small incisions on your stomach. Each will range from 5mm to 12mm in length.

Using laparoscopic tools, Dr. Gonzalez will divide the stomach and reduce the size by approximately 90 percent

Once the stomach is the size and shape of a small tube, Dr. Gonzalez will bypass two to seven feet of intestines

The remaining intestines will then be reattached to the stomach to reroute food to the small intestine.

You will spend three nights in recovery. Your private hospital room also has a private bathroom and Netflix capabilities for your enjoyment.

Will the results be noticeable?
